Recommended Graphic Novels: Sacred Heart by Liz Suburbia

Sacred Heart by Liz Suburbia

Suburbia says she writes comics about dogs and punks, but Sacred Heart is a lot more than that. There are some kids acting like punks, some punks and a dog, but also some murders, some complicated relationships, a distinct absence of parents, and a really bad feeling.

Ben’s sister keeps disappearing, her crush isn’t into her, and now her feelings for her best friend Mahoney might be veering into something else. She hates where she lives, everything is trashed, but band nights are cool. Then there are the dead bodies, and the psychic girls predicting the apocalypse, and the things Ben wants, she can’t seem to get.

Sacred Heart is funny and really cool, but also kind of ominous with a twist ending that really jumps up and smacks you.
